Wage growth hits 7.3%.

Interest rate rises may slow.

With inflation expected to slow, many are predicting that the worst is now behind us, however, whilst it’s positive news, it doesn’t necessarily mean that interest rates will begin to fall quickly.

Other pressures remain and one of the greatest factors, as Sky reports, is that wage growth has reached it’s highest level on record with an unprecedented increase of 7.3% in the three months to May, which his higher than economists had predicted.

As a result, unemployment has increased to 4% which can be attributed in no small part to rising labour costs. This is a particularly difficult time for businesses in that managing those spiralling fixed costs can severely impact competitiveness.
